PERSONAL PROFILE I was born and grew up in the Sennen/St Ives areas of Cornwall and, though I moved away to study at North Gloucester College and Aston University, my links with Cornwall remained. Prior to and during my time at University, I gained considerable professional experience whilst working for a large construction company on various large sites in London, Home Counties and overseas in Dubai and Brunei, Borneo. I became a Member of the Royal Institution Chartered Surveyors and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Building following my graduation, when I joined the Building Control Department of Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council in the West Midlands. But for me Cornwall is where I wanted to live and work and I returned in 1983 as a Chartered Building Surveyor for Fox & Son in Penzance. Douglas Cawley & Associates was formed in 1988 where, as an Independent Chartered Building Surveyor, sympathetic to the local environment, architecture, conservation and planning issues, I built on my already varied professional skills and now offer a variety of services including Independent Property Advice, Project Management, Reports and Reviews.
